MS Jane Austen is one of our smaller, more intimate ships – sailing through France with a relaxed, familiar feel on board.
With a maximum of around 140 guests, it doesn't take long before you start recognising faces, finding your favourite seat and settling into the rhythm of life on the river.
Built to our own exacting standards, the ship combines comfortable, characterful spaces with a warm and sociable atmosphere. The welcoming lounge and bar are at the heart of life on board, while the restaurant showcases the flavours of the regions you're travelling through.
Up on the Sun Deck, there's plenty of space to sit back and watch the French countryside glide by, while a small number of bicycles are available for those who'd like to explore a little further when ashore.
Dining on Board
Begin the day’s adventure with a generous breakfast, from warm cooked dishes to fresh fruit, yoghurt and cereals. Lunch is relaxed and flexible, with lighter plates alongside comforting favourites. In the evening, the main restaurant serves a four-course à la carte dinner inspired by the regions you’re travelling through, enjoyed in an atmosphere of easy conversation.
For something more informal, La Brasserie offers French-influenced dishes such as charcuterie and regional flavours – ideal for a simpler, more intimate meal, best paired with a glass of local wine.

Deck Plan
The Sun Deck
The Sun Deck – particularly the forward viewing area – is one of the best places on board to watch the scenery unfold, from historic riverside villages and steep vine-clad valley sides to the ever-changing landscapes along the riverbanks. Comfortable outdoor seating and sun loungers make it easy to settle in for a while, while a small splash pool offers a welcome place to cool off on warmer days. You'll also find deck games, including shuffleboard, adding to the relaxed atmosphere on board.
When the weather allows, the Sun Deck becomes a wonderfully sociable space. Grab a drink from the bar, find a seat in the sunshine and watch the world drift by, or join one of our occasional deck barbecues and get to know your fellow guests over a glass of wine.
Please note: The Sun Deck is only accessible by stairs.
The Diamond (Upper) Deck
The Diamond Deck is the social heart of the ship. The panoramic observation lounge and bar is where guests naturally gather, drawn in by the ever-changing river views and easy, welcoming atmosphere. Floor-to-ceiling windows keep the scenery front and centre, whether you're enjoying a morning coffee, catching up with fellow travellers or simply watching the world drift by.
Comfortable seating throughout makes it easy to settle in for a while, perhaps with a book, a game of cards or a quiet drink as the landscapes unfold beyond the windows. If you'd prefer a little fresh air, step outside onto the terrace and enjoy the sights and sounds of the river from a different perspective.
In the evenings, the lounge often takes on a more relaxed feel, with live music and the chance to linger over a drink after dinner. Towards the rear of the Diamond Deck, La Brasserie offers a quieter, more informal setting – ideal for escaping with a good book or sitting out on the terrace as the river slips gently by.
The Ruby (Middle) Deck
The Ruby Deck is home to the ship's main restaurant, where generous windows keep the scenery in view as you dine. It's a relaxed and welcoming space, whether you're easing into the day over breakfast, enjoying a leisurely lunch or gathering with fellow guests for dinner.
Each day, our chefs create menus inspired by the regions you're travelling through, alongside familiar favourites and seasonal ingredients. Breakfast includes a plentiful buffet, with freshly cooked egg dishes available to order, while lunch offers a choice of lighter options and heartier dishes. In the evening, dinner is served in an unhurried atmosphere, giving you time to enjoy good food, conversation and the changing views beyond the windows.
Our open-seating policy adds to the relaxed feel on board, making it easy to dine with new friends or simply choose a different table and conversation each day.
The Emerald (Lower) Deck
Tucked away on the Emerald Deck, the ship's spa and wellness area offers a quiet retreat from life on the river. Available to reserve for private use, it's the perfect place to spend a peaceful hour enjoying the sauna or steam room before rejoining the relaxed atmosphere on board.
Please note: The Emerald Deck is only accessible by stairs.
